What can be done with a pinched nerve in a dogs back?

We are trying on deciding whether to adopt a 2 yr AmStaff or 2 year old Basset hound. The basset hound sometimes falls while walking or running because of a pinched nerve in his back but doesn’t seem to be in pain, he just gets back up and keeps going,.What things can be done about a pinched nerve in his back. would it require surgery or just treatments. Thanks.

My shih tzu was given a steroid shot, and that seemed to help. Wow, I cannot think of how many vets we’ve seen and how many meds she’s taken…. She sometimes cannot walk still.

Where are you adopting them from? Ask to speak with their vet who has seen him.

How can I get rid of neck and upper back pain?

I’m 16 years old and this year I have neck and back pain almost every day after school. I think it’s my posture, I try to stand up straight but it’s hard for me. I’m usually slouched over in my desk too. Usually I take advil, but I’m wondering if it’s normal for me to have neck pain at my age. And how can I stop getting it? Thank you!

Lola,
It’s not normal to have neck pain at your age. I would have your parents take you to the chiropractor. Also you should try this pillow, it will help: http://www.arc4life.com/site/615058/product/LinearGravityPillow

What other ways are there to treat a disc bulge other than chiropractic?

I’ve been seeing a chiropractor (actually, two) for the past couple of months to treat a disc bulge, which has also been referred to on a few different occasions as a torn disc and cervical disc. We don’t know the actual extent of the bulge because I have not had an MRI. The pain has been tolerable (somewhat dull and nagging), but chronic. Chiropractic has helped, but the condition is still there. What are some other options?

Pain management Dr. will help. He will know what is the best thing for you. Insurance is a Must. It can be very costly, but well worth it. Deep massages are very good also. At least once a week at first. Be sure to tell your therapist about your condition. It is such a relief when you get one. Good luck to you.

What stretches can I do to stretch out my sciatica nerve in the morning?

Every morning when I wake up I can hardly walk because of my sciatica nerve. It takes me about 2-3 hours to be able to actually stand up straight in the morning after I wake up. There has to be something I can do in order to excersise this nerve. Any tips or advice would be helpful thank you very much!

I understand your pain because I have had sciatica for 14 years from a back injury that caused permanent nerve damage. Here is a website that tells you what stretches can help and even shows pictures:

http://www.moore-chiropractic.com/sciatica-stretches.html

You should also try to walk as much as possible because it really does help with the pain. Try to avoid hills and stairs as they will make the pain worse.

Some other options include chiropractic care (generally only good for short term relief), steroid injections (did not help me), physical therapy and pain management. I also took a drug called Trileptal for many, many years. It is actually an anti-seizure med but it is known to help with chronic nerve pain. Depending on the cause of your sciatica, you may be able to try that as well. I loved how it helped me and only stopped taking it because I want to begin trying to have a family in the near future and it is known to cause some types of birth defects.

Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon.

How do I get rid of temporary lower back pain?

My lower back has been hurting for about a week now. How do I get rid of the pain without having to go to the chiropractor? I’ve been taking OTC back pain relievers, and they seem to help a little bit. Do you have any alternatives. I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

Actually pain relievers will only give you temporary relief at most. If you have had pain for a week, the ice/heat will seldom work as it is more effective in those first 48 hours.

What you need to do is stretch a few muscles as they are the likely source of most of your pain, and also get your joints moving.

You need to be able to work out what is wrong though or you may target the wrong areas. If you wish click the link below my name for a free diagnostic tool you can use o work out where your back pain comes from.

But then you need to stretch as this should help. even once the pain has eased, you still need to work on your back to make sure the pain doesn’t come back.

Take care

How do you treat chronic back pain after having an epidural?

I had an epi with my last birth 2 years ago and have suffered chronic back pain since. Have seen a chiro and physio but the pain is still there.

An orthopedic doc is worth seeing. You might just need custom arch supports!

There is a series of three epidural shots which are used to treat this back problem. They usually work, but not until after the third shot. Ask you doc about this.

If these solutions don’t work, there are other solutions, up to and including severing the nerve which is causing the problem. Keep talking with your doc, and don’t give up!
