Possible Treatment Options for Back/Sciatica Pain?

I am 36/f, suffer from all around back pain with sciatica. Recently had spinal x-rays, they read as follows: CERVICAL SPINE: “There is straightening of the normal cervical lordosis. Mild disc space narrowing noted at C5-6 and C6-7. Prevertebral tissues are within normal limits. Oblique views demonstrate minimal foraminal narrowing on the left at C4-5 and C5-6 as well as bilaterally at C6-7. There is also right sided foraminal narrowing at C3-4.
LUMBOSACRAL SPINE: Scattered Schmorl’s nodes are noted. No gross compression fracture is identified. There is mild disc space narrowing noted at L5-S2 level. The SI joints and upper sacrum appear grossly normal. The pars interarticularis at L5 are suboptimally visualized.
THORACIC SPINE: There is slight leftward curvature of the upper thoracic spine. Scattered Schmorl’s nodes are noted. No compression fracture identified. The visualized pedicles and rib articulations appear grossly normal.
My questions:
1) Are there non surgery or surgery treatment options available to fix these issues?
2) Is this considered degenerative disc disease?
3) Am I doomed to a life of pain?
Thanks in advance,
Shana

MAJOR sciatica pain help?

My dad has a majorly degenerated disc between l4-5 I think he said and what little is left of the disc is herniated. He also has several other bulges I think he said. MRI showed almost bone on bone that was crushing the nerve I believe he said in l4-5. Before MRI he’s tried chriopractics and didn’t get any relief. Physical therapy helped for alittle bit then it got worse. He recently had epidural shots in some of the discs and said it numbed it for a few hours then it came back on worse. He’s fine when he sits or lays down but soon after getting up he has all the symptoms of sciatica. Exploding feeling of needles in his foot, major cramping, simply debilitating pain. What other options can he try. He really is nervous about surgery but it may come to that. Thanks,

Dan

most common sense diagnosis, sciatica issues?

a few years ago i injured my back using a shovel and i woke the next day with terrible pain in my right leg and back. This haunted me for months until i finally had an epidural shot ( i believe it was in my L5 area) Which took away nearly all the pain. As the years past i would always feel very slight pain in my right leg, but nothing serious and something i could easily have lived with. Well recently my sciatica pain has gotten worse (still not nearly as bad as it was when i initially hury it) but worse to a point where i feel it almost constantly. So ofcourse, i start my internet research and i’m here now looking for more advice i understand this is something i cannot fix without surgery so i am looking with how to live with it.
Can this cause ED?
according to the internet i have the same symptoms as Piriformis Syndrome, is this the same as Sciatica?
can ibuprofen cause ED?
I am in extremely great shape, i was told that i can decrease pain with strecthing and increasing core muscle strength.
Any advice would be great, thanks
I was diagnosed with a herniated disk. I always believed they never really gave me enough information on it other than it was inflamed/irritated thats why i am using the internet

I think I have sciatica…help?

I’m in a wheelchair and have been for a long time and I believe I’m suffering from sciatica. I’ve done my research online and every symptom that I have has been listed. I’ve been to my orthopedic doctor and he said it wasn’t by spine that was causing it because I have a spinal fusion as a result from severe scoliosis. He told me to get a new seat for my wheelchair and that should help, but offered nothing else. Since then, my right leg has quit hurting, but NOW my left leg is hurting, and much worse than my right one did. I have a burning/painful sensation starting in my left buttock and going down to around my knee/calf area. I take an Advil everyday (it started hurting about two weeks ago) and recently have been taking Lortab (my mother had left over ones from surgery and she asked the pharmacist if I could take them, and I can) and they both help a lot, but only for a certain amount of time. Every morning my leg KILLS me, it’s unbearable. My doctor doesn’t believe that surgery is necessary. WHAT on earth can I do to relieve this pain? Should I stretch my legs a lot?
ps – the pain has been so severe I’ve missed school for three days this week.

Sciatica – What should I do?

I started experiencing sciatica pain in my lower back and left leg at the age of 16 which prevented me from doing regular exerise, playing football etc. – very young I’m told to experince this sort of problem. And as a result, after having consulted 2 doctors at the time to try and diagnose the specific problem, I was sent to a hospital for an X-RAY, and to a chiropractor to see exactly if there was any sort of problem.

I was told by both the doctors and chiropractic that the base of my spine was somewhat compounded and the discs were close together which could be causing the pain.

As with all chiropractors, I was given a strict routine of exercises to follow in the hope it would eradicate the problem, but I’m 21 years old now, and although it is often OK, I still experince seriously painful days or weeks where it won’t go away and prevents me almost walking, let alone training or doing anything.

Because of my age, I felt I perhaps was’nt taken as seriously as somebody with similar problems if they’d been middle-aged, but I now have no idea what to do. I was disheartened by the lack of help I was given and that the doctors did not recognise the severity of the problem hence why i have not returned.

Do I continue with exercise as best I can and just learn to live with it, or is this something that can be fixed with surgery. I find it difficult to see how any doctor of chiropractic can irradicate pain completely if the discs are compounded. I don’t particually wan’t to have to do those silly exercises every day for the rest of my life, so what are my options?
