Can some please help my sister out ? sciatica nerve pain?

My sister was diagnosed with sciatica nerve pain and has to wait until she gets her M.R.I back to find out if she needs surgery or not.
So i would like to help her out and find out if anyone has experienced this type of pain and advice on what she can do to help her cope with the pain ?
Besides that she is not the type to take pills, but she says that her leg and back hurt so much that she’s given in.
Any advice would be helpful.
Also, she’s unable to walk on her left leg, so she’s over compensating her right leg so that she is able to walk and fears that she will start to get pain in both legs
